Happy little hen- my besties hens day on King William Road

I was the maid of honour in my besties wedding last month, so how else to celebrate than to throw her a cracking hens day. She was after a low key affair so we celebrated on a Sunday, opting for a later start in the day.

To kick things off we attended a cocktail making class at The Flying Trunk at Goodwood. If you haven’t been to this intimate, beautiful, bespoke cocktail bar you have to- it’s an absolute winner.

11 of us piled into their back room, cosied into the couches and chairs and watched the owners teach us how to make the some mean cocktails. 3 of us then tried our hand at replicating the cocktails- and the girls absolutely aced it.

We made Aperol Spritz (YUM), a Cosmo and a Margarita. The makers of the cocktails got to have a full strength number while the rest of us were given half strength cocktails- even though they had half the alcohol, they were equally as delicious.

The class was very causal and ran for a hour and a half. There was still plenty of time for conversation and if you were to throw a few in, you could definitely fit some relaxed hens games in-between drinks.

We sent the crew off to the Hyde Park Tavern for a hour while the bridesmaids and I went to Souter Park (about 700 metres away) where we setup a grazing picnic in the park. It was SO hot so we were lucky to score a really shady spot under the trees. We had the wind to battle with (flowers and glasses blew off of the tables at one point) but it still was a success!

I hired some props  from 2 SA businesses to help with the setup of the day. The rugs and most of the cushions were from Old Refinery and the pallet tables were from Ellery Events. Both suppliers were very easy to work with and the prices were reasonable. I’d recommend them both to anyone. In terms of styling the maids and I rolled up our sleeves and gave it our best shot.

Platters were filled with local produce, flowers were from my favourite stall at the Willunga Farmers Market- Heirloom Harvest and drinks were from some of my favourite South Australian wineries- Pure Vision, Bent Creek and Monterra just to name a few. It was the perfect rose weather so they went down a treat!

We all had a great afternoon, wineing and dining in the park and finishing off with some hens games. Oh and a Mr Whippy van came right at the end of the day which I was so excited for- who can resist a sprinkle and sherbet soft serve cone?!

Big thanks to The Flying Trunk for hosting us- we had a fabulous time.

If you would like to host a cocktail class for a hens day or gathering get in touch with the trunk here and tell them I sent you. You’ll be in for a fabulous time!
