15 more amazing coffee joints on the Fleurieu Peninsula

Those who know me know that I LOVE coffee. I’m lucky to call the Fleurieu home, which means I am surrounded by some seriously good coffee haunts.

At the beginning of the year I made a list of some of my favourite places to sink a brew on the Fleurieu (you can see it here), but since the list is growing I thought it was time to make a new one.

So without further ado, here’s another 15 of my favourite places to sink a brew on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

De Groot Coffee Co

If you are looking for seriously good coffee, and I’m talking real good, then you need to stop into De Groot coffee co. Located in the industrial area of Port Elliot, this joint is a blink and you’ll miss it kinda place. Tucked away in a big shed, this gem dishes out some of the best lattes I have tasted. They also stock a small selection of sweets to go with your coffee, because, who doesn’t love sweets.

Motherduck

If you find yourself in Goolwa then you have to stop into this funky little café. Its bright and beautiful, with an industrial feel and a seriously good brekky and brunch menu. In terms of brews you’ll see Proud Mary Coffee flowing through their machines, as well as a selection of teas from Wildfire Organic Tea, handcrafted in Port Elliot. As for the food, if you love sweet potato fries then order yourself a bowl- you won’t be disappointed.

Qahwa

Tucked away just off the main drag in Victor Harbor, Qahwa is a charming little cafe right by the shorefront. It’s the perfect place to stop in with a mate or the whole family- there’s a play area right next to the cafe equipt with tables so the kids can run wild. In terms of food they have you covered with brekky and lunch, as well as huge and tasty wraps, bliss balls and homemade kombucha. The real star here though is their coffee, roasted on site in small batches. They made a mean latte, and I can report their decaf is one of best in the biz (don’t judge me on the decaf please!). Well worth a visit!

Walter Melon

Port Elliot is home to some of the best donuts in SA. True. But it’s also home to some of the cutest cafes. Like Walter Melon. They got me at the pastel colours, beautiful artwork and indoor greenery. It terms of food this joint offers a small but tasty menu (order their soup of falafel wrap), as well as the usual range of coffees- and one hell of a chai. I had my first coffee here after 12 weeks in a drought and it was the best thing ever.

Homegrain Bakery

Homegrain at Aldinga is known by the locals as having some of the best baked goods on the Fleurieu (hello donuts, sausage rolls and Kitchener buns), as well as top notch coffee. You’ll find these fine baristas making brews using McLaren Vale roasted Villere Coffee- be sure to get a sneaky biccy or two on the side because they are damn tasty. If you are fan of pies then be sure to try their pie of the month- using local produce and inventive flavour combos you HAVE to try them.

DalMare

DalMare is brought to you by the crew who run the Short Black Caravan on Victor Harbour Road during the weekdays. Their new home, without wheels, is on the main street of McLaren Vale and is open exclusively on weekends. Expect to find their signature brews walking out the doors, as well as bagels in a variety of flavours (hello smoked salmon and vego). These guys have also teamed up with McLaren Vale vintage bike hire, so you can get your coffee fix and then ride around some of the best wineries and cafés in the region. Happy days.

Goodness Coffee Co

Tucked away in a 1870’s heritage listed cottage, Goodness Coffee Co offers seriously good coffee. Beans are roasted on site and are available by the bag  to take home and enjoy. I strongly recommend getting a big latte, heading out into the courtyard and soaking up the sunshine- you might even find yourself ordering a second cup and extending your stay.

Mullygrub

You might recognise the name from the iconic food truck seen at Fleurieu and Adelaide events. Mullygrub has got a permanent home without the wheels in McLaren Vale, offering brekky and lunch options like hotcakes, coconut crusted chicken burgers and chicken wings. Their baristas know their stuff, using locally roasted Villere coffee through their machine. They open their doors nice and early, so you can get your fix before the commute to work. Happy days indeed.

Coffee Factory Café

Great coffee just a stroll away from Port Noarlunga Beach, yes thanks! The Coffee Factory is known on the Fleurieu for its excellent brews and damn good vibes. Their outdoor area is perfect for those with doggos and kids in tow- they don’t discriminate. They also offer a brekky and lunch menu which is pretty damn delicious- if the pancakes are on the special board you need to order them!

Agathas

Epic breakfasts and lunches, fresh juice and raw cakes are just a few of the things that this café is smashing. Another one is their coffee. If you are looking for a cafe that serves coffee that doesn’t need sugar, then pop Agathas on the list. If you’re on the run then I suggest grabbing a takeaway and heading to Port Noarlunga Beach which is just a short stroll away.

One Little Sister

I’ve never had a sister, but if I did I would most certainly pick this café as mine. One Little Sister in Normanville offers a relaxed and fun vibe to diners, dishing out some delicious brunch/lunch options, and damn good pizza. As well as great food they also make fabulous coffee, using locally roasted De Groot Coffee Co beans. Well worth stopping in when your down this way!

Harrys Deli at Wirra Wirra

If you have tried local roasters Dawn Patrol Coffee then you are going to LOVE Harrys Deli. Attached to Wirra Wirra Wines, Harrys Deli is an eatery serving delicious local produce, light lunches and huge platters. Local foodies like Four Winds Chocolate and the Clappis family are suppliers, alongside the Kangarilla based roasters. They made a mean latte at this joint, and if you’re after something a little different then dabble in their chai- it’s not to be missed!

Pipi at Middleton

If I lived in Middleton, Pipi would be taking all of my life savings because I would be living there for every meal. The cafe heros local produce in their menu- my kind of cafe. Their brunch options are amazing- their pancakes, chai spiced porridge and ‘Pipi Hash’ are our goto’s and the Strawberry Smoothie is perfect for a sweet treat without the guilt. They use locally roasted coffee beans from the crew at De Groot Coffee Co, and lets just say they know their stuff. Never had a bad brew from this place.

South Seas Books and Trading

If you love coffee and a good read, then this is the place or you. South Seas Books and Trading is a independent bookshop, and is just across the road from my favourite South Seas Trading (a homewares lovers heaven, hide the credit card) in the town of Port Elliot. The book store offers delicious cups of joe, that you can takeaway or enjoy on the comfy leather couches in the morning sun. Not your typical cafe, but a great place to unwind and give your eyes some screen free time.

Tealicious Cakes

If you like a sneaky side of cake with your coffee then pop Tealicious in your diary. This cake shop turned teahouse is an absolute gem, filled with all things fine china, pink and girly. They use local roasters Villere for their coffee, and Fleurieu handmade tea by the Dandy Tea Co. Natasha, known around Willunga as the cake queen, makes some of the best cupcakes, scones and melting moments to hit your lips (and hips).

You can also see some of my other favourite Fleurieu Coffee Haunts here– because the list was way too long to put in one post.
