Beach Road Wines

If the idea of pizza in the sun with a glass of vino in your hand sounds like a good time to you, then keep reading. If it doesn’t sound like a good time, then keep reading regardless, because i’m going to try and convince you otherwise.

Beach Road Wines is a beautiful winery in McLaren Vale, offering panoramic views of the vineyards and the wine region from both their cellar door and restaurant.

The cellar door is open and airy and takes full advantage of the view. Think large floor to ceiling windows, a long tasting bench and rustic features. There’s plenty of wines on offer to try, from reds to whites and a few bubbles (their sparkling red is a MUST try!). If you plan on hanging around and you don’t like wine (I won’t judge) then check out their drinks list- they stock beer and cider from local Fleurieu brewers at Swell, Goodiesons and Vale Ale, as well as softies from Bickfords and barista made coffee.

If you are into your lighter style wines then you need to dabble in their Montepulciano and Nero D’Avola- they are absolute winners. Because the weather had warmed up, we opted for a few glasses of the Bolle Rosse Sparkling Red and their Beach Road White Sangria. Their Sangria was fruit driven and bubbly- I’m calling it a perfect summer drink with girlfriends (though this one I think the lads may like too). I’m not a huge red drinker but are rather partial to a sparkling number, and this is one of the best ones we have had. The other half was very impressed.

As we were staying for lunch and wanted to take advantage of the sun we headed straight to the deck- it’s the BEST spot. If you are seeking shade then you need to head under their ginormous old tree- the views are just as good and you’ll be surrounded by the birds chattering. Beach Road also have a full undercover seated area, offering tables for both large and small groups. Hello functions and long lunches!

With a wine in hand we checked out their menu and straight away I was overwhelmed with so many delicious options. Pea and Mint Arancini with whipped Chevre, local Coriole Olives and Wood Oven Flatbread were just a few on offer, but as always I went straight to the Antipasto for Two.

Lucky we were a hungry two, as the serving size was rather large! We were treated to slices of haloumi, marinated vegetables, terrine and salami, dukkah and olive oil, Olive tapenade (which was so bloody good), hommus & house baked bread which came out warm. Got to love warm bread.

For mains we shared a pizza. They are 10 inches each so you could easily eat one yourself, but after devouring the Antipasto platter I was so glad we shared! We were very happy with our Salami Pizza- covered in Salami, roast capsicum, mozzarella, olives and napoli base. No excessive toppings, a thin crispy base and beautiful Napoli sauce, we were in pizza heaven.

I wish we saved room for dessert- they got me at Warm Mocha Brownies, Gelati and their Beach Road Affagato (a double shot espresso, rich chocolate icecream, served with 30mL Beach Road Pedro Ximenez- you’ll be pinging after that one!).

We loved our experience at Beach Road– lovely attentive staff, excellent food and as always, fabulous wines!

You can find Beach Road Wines at 309 Seaview Road, McLaren Vale.
