upcycled. cosy. eclectic.

oh and did I mention insanely good coffee?

just a few things that are a stand out at Yankalilla’s most sweetest little cafe, 21 Junk Street.

located on the main street, between op shops overfilling with mason jars and mismatched crockery, this gem of a cafe fits in perfectly to its surrounds. it all starts at the front door, where fruit and vegetables sit on a wooden crate- a sign encouraging those to leave produce behind and swap their unwanted delights. I left my heart right there.

inside you’ll find a american pickers style collection of furniture and signage- think retro coke signs, white typography on the walls and a rusty vintage bicycle fixed to the wall with a decal of a skeleton. crazy but cool. the softest of couches are sitting there waiting for you with crochet rugs galore and plenty of decent magazines just waiting to be read. it brings back memories of my grandmas house with macrame in the corners, planters filled with succulents, copper tea pots and a stunning record player taking centre stage in the cafe.

behind the counter you’ll find the happiest of staff members who don the biggest of smiles, whipping up the meanest of coffees using Patio Coffee beans. if your feeling peckish then look no further than their gourmet toasties or if you’ve got a sweet tooth then b-line for their sweet cabinet filled with home made cakes by the delightful TJ, even featuring raw cakes that are gluten and refined sugar free (that means you can have 2, right?) when the weathers hot then get stuck into a iced coffee or milkshake in a variety of flavours. YUM.

as well as selling fabulous food and coffee you can also purchase a range of locally made gifts like Wildfire Organic Tea, infusers and natural soy candles, all at very affordable prices. on their facebook page they also sell furniture which they upcycle and bring to life, perfect for the person who loves one of a kind pieces.

so next time your going for a drive on the Fleurieu Peninsula pop this beauty into your GPS and let yourself  lose a hour in the world that’s 21 Junk Street.
