The Ultimate Family Day out at Urimbirra Wildlife Park

If you find yourself South of Adelaide, or are just looking for the perfect day trip with the kids, look no further than Urimbirra Wildlife Park.

The park has been around for years, and last week the hubby and I finally got around to taking our daughter for a visit. Why did we wait so long? It was so much fun and we all loved it, maybe me more than our toddler.

The park is only 5 minutes out of Victor Harbor, offering a viewing of almost any Australian animal that you can think of. Emus, crocodiles, wombats, echidnas, dingoes, koalas, SO many kangaroos- they have it all. They don’t just have Australian animals, but plenty of farmyard animals, beautiful birds and awesome reptiles. When you arrive make sure grab some Kangaroo food on your way in ($1 a bag, bargain, and endless entertainment!). Feeding them is so fun and makes for some great photos! The kangaroos are super friendly and love a feed.

When we arrived we had just missed the koala holding experience, but you could still see them clearly and relatively up close in their enclosures. Our daughter LOVED them. Koala holding is at 11am and 2pm and is free of charge, which is a nice change from some of the other wildlife parks. They also offer snake holding if you’re after an adrenaline rush which they host at 3pm.

If you’re visiting at lunch time, be sure to pack a picnic and head for one of the many benches and picnic tables to enjoy your food surrounded by the beautiful surroundings. They also have a gas BBQ on offer if you want to throw a few snags on the Barbie, or a kiosk where you can bribe the kids with an ice-cream. If the kids haven’t burnt off enough energy running around on the grass and feeding the kangaroos, there is a playground to keep them occupied too.

If you’re looking for an affordable, fun and informative experience for little and big kids, head down to Urimbirra- it’s a fabulous day out.

You can find Urimbirra at 10 Welch Road, Victor Harbor.
