Our Babymoon at Shadow Creek, McLaren Vale

If you are looking for the ultimate baby moon destination on the Fleurieu Peninsula, or just somewhere to disappear with your lover, Shadow Creek is the place to go.

The other half and I had spent a night here a few months ago, so when the owners reached out and asked if we would like to stay again for a pre baby getaway how could we say no?! You can read all about our previous stay here.

Located between the townships of Willunga and McLaren Vale, this exquisite and luxurious accommodation is the perfect place to wind down and spend some much needed time doing nothing- just what we wanted before we welcome a baby into the world! We scored lucky with the weather on our visit, but still got the open fire started at night- how can you resist an open wood fire.

We spent most of our time lounging around our digs, sitting out on the deck soaking up the sun at brekky, cooking a barbecue and spending the evening staring out at the vineyard view and spending nights Netflix-and-chilling.

One afternoon we wandered out on the property towards the vineyards and olive grove and were greeted with the most epic picnic setup under a huge gum tree. Chelsea, our very clever host, had set up everything we needed to a romantic feast. Think drinks (both alco and non alco options), a picnic basket filled to the brim with everything from freshly cut sandwiches and rolls, tarts, savoury muffins, fresh seasonal fruit and even gooey French brie. I could eat pretty much everything in that basket and over the few hours we spent lounging around eat it all I did. We wandered from the shade of the gumtree to a rug and cushions places between a row vineyards and soaked it all in. It was literally just the two of us out here, surrounded by nothing but the chirping of birds. Absolute bliss.

I was also told that on the moon you could opt to have a pregnancy massage, and lets just say I had to oblige (i’m a sucker for a massage at the best of times). I was very very excited when the owner from Belli Bliss (one of the best therapists in the Vale) rocked up on our door step with her massage table in tow. We set up the table inside as it was a bit chilly, but you can even have your massage on the deck in the sun if the weather suits. The massage was divine and just what this tired body needed- my only complaint is that I wish it lasted longer. Once she was done she packed up all her things and left us to relax for the evening- I jumped straight into their massive bath and soaked the afternoon away.

This place is the perfect for those who want to hideaway for a few nights or spent their days exploring the region. We popped into the newly open Down The Rabbit Hole cellar door before we checked in and treated ourself to a grazing platter filled with local seasonal fare and a glass of wine and it was the perfect way to start our moon. They are literally down the road from the accomodation so it is definitely worth a look in when you stay.

If you are looking for somewhere to completely relax and treat yourself, for baby moon times or just because, this pop this in your little black book. You won’t be disappointed.

You can book Shadow Creek here.
