Down The Rabbit Hole Cellar Door, McLaren Vale

Easily one of South Australia’s most instagrammable cellar doors, Down The Rabbit Hole is known not only for its iconic ‘tasting bus’ and it’s casual bohemian vibes, but also their damn delicious wines.

This cellar door is the place to be this summer, with vineyard views, all day menu and acoustic sessions on Friday nights.

It’s been a long time coming but we finally got lost DTRH, and it was as good as I was hoping. The cellar door is just as beautiful as it looks in the photos- everything has been thought of. Being the brain child of Elise and Dom (no doubt you’ve seen Elise on the gram), you know it’s bound to be beautiful. And aesthetically pleasing it certainly was. Even the bathrooms are photo-worthy.

From the gorgeous wooden furniture, moroccan style cushions, huge pendants and pastel and terracotta hues, it was like walking into another world. A really chilled out world at that.

Although big groups and functions are best spent else where, this cellar door offers plenty of seating inside and out, so you can bring your friends and family and spend the afternoon lazying away. Whether you’re keen to lay on the floor cushions, sit on the grass on their colourful Wandering Folk rugs or fight for a spot on their hanging cane chairs, they will have a place for you.

If you’ve never tried their wines then you need to get acquainted with their bus named Lennon. He’s originally from Scotland and he’s a beauty. Converted into a tasting room with all the bells and whistles, its the ultimate place to sit around and sip your way through their variety of reds, whites and rose. Once you’ve finished dabbling and have picked a glass (or bottle) to devour, head upstairs of the double deck bus to their long table, where in the warmer months the roof will be removed. It’s the ultimate drinking experience!

If you’re not a wine drinker (i’m not judging you, I promise!) you’ll be pleased to know you’ll still be catered for. Their onsite coffee and cocktail hut will have you covered. Strong coffee, chai lattes and their own blend of cocktails are the way to go and will even convert the wine-wine-only drinkers.

When we visited we were starved so we treated ourselves to their grazing board. We weren’t very hungry so we opted for the 1 person serve and we were pleasantly suprised with the size. Filled to the brim of locally sourced, organic and gluten free fare, the platter had everything from cheese to meat balls and roasted veggies. They dish up whats in season so no doubt you’ll be treated to something different on each occasion. One thing I hope they never get rid of is their potatoes- I’m coming back for these bad boys ASAP.

If you’re looking for a new local this summer then pop into this beautiful spot. It gets SUPER busy on the weekends so make sure to get there early, or if you have the chance visit mid week. We visited on a Tuesday and it was a lot more relaxed!

You can find Down The Rabbit Hole at 233 Binney Road, McLaren Vale.
