off the main road in Colonel Light Gardens is one of my favourite breakfast spots, and it seems like it is everyone elses to. The Stranded Store is a quaint little cafe where they serve breakfast, lunch and the most delicious coffee.

it has a industrial yet minimalist look, however is really inviting and has a super fun atomsphere. think cool lighting, timber floor boards, original picture railings and exposed brick.

i’ve been here a few times now, and on every occasion the food is on point. there all about supporting local suppliers in SA- serving De Groot coffee from Pt Elliot and using local produce. The staff are incredibly friendly and more than happy to go out of their way for you and are happy to give suggestions on their favourite things to eat off the menu.

on this occasion we sat inside and sank skinny lattes while we pondered over the menu. we admired the art work which filled the walls of the cafe and drooled over the macarons that sat on the counter top. I decided on the Kangaroo Island Free Range Eggs with sourdough, fried haloumi and Nino’s prosciutto. My bestie on the other hand chose the Eggs Benedict- with sauteed baby spinach, Adelaide hills cider co hollandaise and barossa smoked bacon.

the food came out quickly, but not to quick that we still had plenty of time to talk crap and giggle at the boys talking selfies in the corner. I couldn’t fault my breakfast- the eggs were cooked just as I had asked, the haloumi was all kinds of delicious and the prosciutto was mixed in with pickles, red onion and cabbage. a totally different combo but the flavours really complimented each other.

my friend said her meal was bang on, with the hollandaise being sweet from the cider and her eggs cooked just as she liked them (she to doesn’t like poached eggs so she had them fried). the bacon must have been good because it disappeared off her plate rather quickly.

once we finished our meals I secretly undid the button of my pants and waddled out the door. the coffee was that good that my friend ordered another double shot for the road. I turned down the cakes this time, but next time I am going to have to give in!

you can visit The Stranded Store at 14 The Strand, Colonel Light Gardens.
