Goodbye tapestry. Hello S.C Pannell.

Like no other winery I’ve encountered in the Vale, this newly renovated cellar door oozes an american basement bar type feel. From the dark walls, to the industrial lighting and neon red signage, this places sucks you in and makes you feel like quite the hipster, and even a little bit sexy.

The lovely man behind the bar made us feel very welcome even though there was a quite a few people in for tastings. I am not a huge red drinker (blaspheme I know) but he even got me to taste some of his favourites and I must say, I may be converted. Their Tempranillo and Shiraz are oh so delicious. My red obsessed friend sampled all the reds including the vintage list and she was impressed.

Their Rose smells like  strawberry picking in Hahndorf and their Pinot Grigio is delicious, and I mean you could drink a bottle in one seating without even trying delicious.

Even though Tapestry has sold their cellar door to S.C Pannell you can still expect the same decking with beautiful views and plenty of rooms for functions, just with a fresh new twist.

S.C Pannell also offers a variety of tapas on Friday, Saturday and Sundays & even cater for the little people. Food wise think homemade lamb chiko rolls, seville sliders, patatas bravas, pork belly, chorizo and even braised beef cheeks with Asian salad. we didn’t tuck into any of these because lets face it, I want them all in one sitting. We ended up choosing a small cheese platter with lavosh and glace quince and a small charcuterie plate with pickles.

The meat was finely sliced and melty in the mouth. They offered a variety of hard and soft cheeses which matched perfectly with the ample amount of sourdough and lavosh. The pickles were not your average pickles either- pickled chilli which had a bit of a kick but with the cheese was a match made in heaven. There was even a bit of apple and baby spinach so you could feel like the platter was healthy (that’s my excuse anyways). If this was the small serving then get excited about the large one. and for those with a sweet tooth dessert is also on the cards.

You can find S.C Pannell at 60 Olivers Road, Mclaren Vale.
