Then you need to do yourself a favour and start sourcing your veggies from one of my favourite small businesses, ScoopSA.

Scoop SA was founded by the lovely Rachel Mcmillan. Rach is originally from New South Wales, working within the hospitality region which had brought on her love for food. Over time she move here to Adelaide, where she felt at home and fell in love with Fleurieu region and it’s produce. The love of the produce transpired into her next venture Scoop SA, which now supplies fresh and seasonal produce all around Australia. That may now seem a distant memory, with this thriving business recently celebrating its 10 anniversary as distributors and it’s 1st birthday as growers.

Within those 10 years Scoop SA has been stocking their goods to some of Adelaide and Australia’s best restaurants. On the home front Scoop SA services some of the best foodie haunts in the South- Salopian Inn, D’arrys, Star of Greece and Maxwells to name a few. In the city you’ll find they have a long list of customers, but special mentions go to Magill Estate, Orana (a firm favourite of mine) and Fall from Grace. They also supply luxury resorts like the Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, Longitude 131 in Uluru and The Playford Hotel in Adelaide.

It also gives me warm and fuzzies saying that they supply produce to some of my favourite gorgeous, ethical and organic cafes such as the Annex in Glenelg, The Fleurieu Pantry in Port Noarlunga, The Green Room in Willunga and Organics to Go at Magill- perfect for those who are concious about where their food comes from!

As we are not all chefs or restaurant owners, Rach has set up a beaut of a Farm Gate for those who wish to be able to serve up all this incredible produce on their tables at home. The Farm Gate is located at Paddys Row in Aldinga and consists of a modified caravan, filled to the brim with all the goodies a foodie could want.

There’s a huge fridge. Long tables, and plenty of seasonal produce from the Fleurieu. They sell anything that they are growing at their farm which is edible – herbs, flowers, veggies, greens, weeds, native produce and their popular gourmet salad mixes. They also make their own jams, preserves, mueslis, pickled veg and fermented veggies. 98% of the produce comes directly from growers and producers in the Fleurieu, also sourcing from Kangaroo Island and the Riverland when stock isn’t available.

Aside fruit and veg, they also stock a large range from many of our neighbouring Fleurieu producers – olive oil, olives, nuts, fruit and veg, dukkah, eggs, dairy and much more. They have the largest range of Hindmarsh Valley Dairy in South Australia and stock a good range of BD Farm Paris Creek- their brie is to die for! Purchasing said goods is a breeze- just bring some cash, take your items, tally up the price (they have a calculator and notebook handy for adding up sums) and pop the money in the box. Easy as pie!
