the south of Adelaide has been graced with a place of coffee greatness.

greatness. is that even a word?
I’m not sure. But either way, Dawn Patrol Coffee has got it going on and it’s ticking all the boxes. A coffee cellar door, where you can taste the best in locally roasted espresso and filtered coffee. The masterminds who work and run the cellar door are super lovely and make you feel at home. They talk you through all their brews, and even for a coffee weakling like me they add a dash of milk to my espresso. Bless.

The cellar door is located at the back of their property on Days Road at Kangarilla. Think ply wood, exposed black metal, a trough as a sink and coffee brewed in beakers. After going through our espresso selection with Nick and in the company of cellar door dog Jack (the worlds tiniest gangsta dog in Adidas threads) we wandered over to try some filtered goodies. I’ve never had a proper filtered coffee before and I was pleasantly surprised. We listened to Dom, who I like to call the wikipedia of coffee, tell us about the different blends of the coffee, where it’s from and how it’s roasted. It was delicious.

My friend and I took a seat in one of their very comfy vintage chairs, ate some pistachio and chocolate gluten free cake and soaked it all in. And I drank another filtered coffee (at this point I was buzzing). The atmosphere of this place is great- plenty of room outside for kids to run around, the family pets hanging out with you while you sip your coffee and excellent tunes to listen to while you do all of the above. Whether you have time for one quick espresso, or a hour or so for a tasting and a cake it’s well worth stopping by. They also sell their beans and filtered coffee by the bag so you can relive your coffee dream again and again.

At the moment they will only be opening on Sundays. You can find Dom, Saffy and Nick from Dawn Patrol Coffee at 65 Days Road, Kangarilla. Look for the gate opposite the vineyards and have a Bolivian blend for me (and try and score a not so blurry photo of the dog.)
